As part of the Proposed Comensatory Mitigation Plan for minor impacts in stream crossings of the Honolulu High Capacity Transit Corridor Project (HHCTP), Waiawa Stream was evaluated and redesigned with strict "no-rise" restrictions. From a riparian vegetation and grading perspective, construction and mitigation to the left bank was extensive while the right bank only received selective removal of invasive species. Working in conjunction with Parsons Brinckerhoff and Northwest Hydraulic Consultants, the landscape architect collaborated on geotextile soutions and designs that integrated engineered reinforcement with vegetated solutions. Special plant palettes were devised to have the greatest possible success among the many microcultures of the riparian zone. Native plants are planned for the majority of planting areas along with a few reliable non-invasive adapted species. The landscape architect prepared tree disposition plans and planting plans for both banks from concept to DD, then multiple sets for permitting purposes on this streambank restoration project. Completed at Belt Collins LLC.
